Josh Hutcherson, Avan Jogia Promote Gay-Straight Alliance Clubs
February 20th, 2012
Actors Josh Hutcherson and Avan Jogia discuss the importance of gay allies with Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club leaders.

The 20-year-old Jogia is the founder of the Straight But Not Narrow campaign, which features videos of young, straight and mostly male celebrities speaking out in support of their gay friends. Hutcherson is a co-star of the lesbian moms film The Kids Are All Right.

In the nearly five-minute video, Jogia and Hutcherson talk with young students who wanted to make a difference.

“A lot of people think that you have to be gay to support the LGBT community,” a girl says, “but you just have to be human.”

“I knew a lot of people were struggling on campus and there were a lot of slurs going on,” another girl says. “So I really wanted to change that and make my school safer, and a more respectful place.”

A young man says he became involved “because you need to be an activist in the community. But it's also a safe place where people can go and express themselves without being judged.”
