A student at North Tyneside College, Stuart is studying Art and Design and is said to be a genius at drawing. Stuart had never acted before Billy Elliot but auditioned after being discovered by a talent scout while inline skating at a park in Whitley Bay called "Skate City".

Stuart's young brother John, 15, also secured a part in "Billy Elliot" as an extra.
